Hyderabad, May 12, 2025 – On the occasion of International Nurses Day, a grand event was organized at Ravindra Bharathi under the aegis of the Telangana Nurses Association. The event paid tribute to the unparalleled service, compassion, and dedication of nurses, commemorating the legacy of modern nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale. The celebration witnessed the participation of distinguished delegates, esteemed guests, and dedicated nursing officers from across the state.

This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care,” highlights the critical role nurses play not only in patient care but also in strengthening the social and economic fabric. As emphasized by the International Council of Nurses, although nurses form the backbone of the healthcare system, they continue to face economic challenges. The event underlined the importance of recognizing the economic value of nurses and honoring their service appropriately.

Indira Shobhan, Senior Congress Leader, addressed the gathering and noted that the state government, upon assuming office, implemented several initiatives for the welfare of nurses. These include the issuance of appointment letters to 6,956 nursing officers at LB Stadium, orders for the establishment of new nursing colleges in various districts, acceleration of recruitment for 2,300 nursing officer posts, modernization of uniform dress code at NIMS, timely promotions in the nursing cadre, and systematic handling of general transfers. She emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and lauded the tireless efforts of nurses in hospitals, clinics, and rural areas in delivering both healthcare and hope.

Maram Jagadeeshwar, President of TNGOs, praised the extraordinary courage displayed by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledged their vital role in health education, disease prevention, and social empowerment. He appealed to the government, medical leaders, and delegates to invest more in nurse support systems, education, fair compensation, and safe working environments—key to strengthening the state’s health infrastructure.

Mamidi Harikrishna, Director of Language and Culture, likened the emotional upliftment from arts to the healing power of nurses. He urged the public to not only appreciate nurses in words but also through action and encouraged everyone to say a simple “thank you” to a nurse, as it could brighten their day just as they brighten the lives of others. He extended heartfelt wishes to all on the occasion, stating that nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare—our present and our future.

Ravindra Naik, Director of Public Health, praised the invaluable contributions of nursing officers, stating their service is beyond description and of utmost importance in delivering healthcare to the public.

Chief guest Nirmala Jagga Reddy graced the occasion along with dignitaries including Vidyulatha (Nursing DD), Vijaya Nirmala (AD), Vidyavati (Registrar, Nursing Council), Smt. Adilakshmi (Association President), Lalitha (General Secretary), Treasurer Swarnalatha, Organizing Secretary Kalpanadatta Goud, State Committee members, and a large number of nursing officers and gazetted nursing officers from all districts of Telangana.
