Hyderabad: 10th  July 2025: Team Vimalakar, led by renowned Surgical Gastroenterologist Dr. Vimalakar Reddy, has successfully completed 50 major robotic-assisted surgeries within a span of just three months at KIMS-Sunshine Hospitals, Begumpet.

These advanced surgeries included complex procedures involving the pancreas, liver, biliary tract, colon, gastric cancers, and abdominal wall reconstructions. All operations were performed using the state-of-the-art Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, ensuring precision, minimal complications, and excellent clinical outcomes.

A press conference was organized on Thursday to mark this milestone. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A.V. Gurava Reddy, Managing Director – KIMS-Sunshine Hospitals, stated:

“KIMS-Sunshine Hospitals is the only orthopaedic hospital in India to be equipped with four robotic systems in the orthopaedics department. Having successfully completed over 10,000 robotic orthopaedic surgeries, we are proud to extend this expertise into the domain of abdominal surgeries. In just three months, over 50 successful robotic GI surgeries have been performed under the expert leadership of Dr. Vimalakar Reddy. Robotic technology ensures a safer surgical experience with quicker recovery for patients. At KIMS-Sunshine, we blend advanced technology with a humane approach to deliver world-class care.”

Dr. Vimalakar Reddy, Senior Consultant & Head – Surgical Gastroenterology, GI Oncology, Bariatric, Robotic Surgery & Liver Transplantation, shared insights into the benefits of robotic surgeries:

“Robotic surgery is now the gold standard for advanced abdominal procedures. With 3D vision and highly guided instruments, robotic surgery allows for precise dissection even in difficult anatomical regions. This results in reduced bleeding, fewer complications, less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker return to daily life—especially beneficial for elderly and cancer patients.”

Dr. Vimalakar emphasized the importance of timely nutrition and early recovery in enhancing the quality of life for patients. He also noted that Team Vimalakar is actively involved in training, education, and clinical research in the field of robotic surgery and aims to establish KIMS-Sunshine as a national centre of excellence for Robotic GI Surgery.

Several patients who were treated through robotic-assisted procedures also shared their recovery experiences, expressing gratitude for the advanced care and personal attention received.

Dr. Vimalakar concluded the event with a presentation explaining the key differences between conventional minimal access and robotic-assisted surgeries, underlining the transformative potential of this technology.

The event was attended by the Team Vimalakar medical fraternity, showcasing unity in clinical expertise and commitment to patient-centric innovation.
