Hyderabad, 5th March 2026:In a powerful step toward inclusive and patient-centric healthcare, Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) Banjara Hills marked International Women’s Day with the launch of its dedicated Centre for Functional and Female Urology, reinforcing its commitment to addressing the often-overlooked urological health concerns of women.
Dedicated Centre for Functional and Female Urology focuses on addressing conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections, and other complex urological disorders that uniquely impact women.
The newly established centre brings together three key components under one roof:
All-Women Operation Theatre (OT): A dedicated surgical facility staffed entirely by women healthcare professionals, ensuring enhanced comfort, privacy, and dignity for female patients undergoing urological procedures.
Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation: A structured, non-surgical treatment program offering pelvic floor muscle training, and guided physiotherapy to help women regain bladder control and improve quality of life.
Urodynamic Studies (UDS): Advanced diagnostic testing to evaluate bladder function and identify conditions such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, voiding dysfunction, and neuro-urological disorders.
Urological health concerns among women ranging from urinary incontinence and recurrent infections to complex reconstructive and pelvic floor conditions often go unaddressed due to hesitation, social stigma, or lack of awareness. Recognizing this gap, AINU’s All-Women OT initiative ensures that female patients undergoing select urological procedures are supported by an entirely women-led clinical team, including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and OT technicians. This initiative is designed not only to enhance patient comfort but also to empower women to seek timely medical intervention without fear or embarrassment.
Over the past five years, AINU female urology team has successfully performed 307 major female urological surgeries, addressing complex conditions such as urinary leakage, urinary fistulas, cystoceles, and female urethroplasty. This milestone helped to create path to launch dedicated Centre for Functional and Female Urology.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarika Pandya, Senior Consultant Female Urologist (Centre for Female Urology), AINU Banjara Hills said, “Many women silently suffer from urological problems due to social stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to specialized care. The Centre for Functional and Female Urology seeks to bridge this gap by offering evidence-based treatments, minimally invasive surgical options, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and personalized counseling under one roof.”
“This initiative is not just about infrastructure; it is about empowering women to prioritize their health without fear or hesitation. By creating a space led entirely by women professionals, we hope to encourage more women to come forward and seek timely medical intervention,” said Dr. Deepti Sureka, Consultant Female Urologist (Centre for Female Urology), AINU Banjara Hills.
