Hyderabad, May 12, 2025: Mr. Pagilla Thirupathi, a 32-year-old physiotherapist from Hayathnagar, Hyderabad, who faced and overcame a rare and life-threatening vascular condition through timely and advanced multi-specialty intervention at NASA Hospitals, LB Nagar.
Renowned for his commitment to rehabilitating patients, Mr. Thirupathi was suddenly thrust into a fight for his own life after developing acute right lower limb ischemia due to arterial thrombosis. His condition escalated from back pain and numbness to total loss of movement and sensation in his right leg, necessitating emergency hospitalization.
Thanks to the expert team of vascular and plastic surgeons at NASA Hospitals, he underwent a series of critical procedures including a right below-knee fasciotomy, arterial embolectom
ies, wound debridement, skin grafting, and VAC therapy, all under spinal anesthesia.
A CT peripheral angiography revealed complete thrombosis in the superficial femoral and popliteal arteries, with no visualization of the internal iliac artery. At the peak of his crisis, there was no pulse or movement in his right leg—a grim prognosis for someone whose livelihood depended on physical mobility.
Mr. Thirupathi’s journey back to health was made possible by a multidisciplinary team that delivered comprehensive care including intensive monitoring, antibiotics, blood transfusions, and advanced wound management. Prior to his arrival at NASA Hospitals, he had been tragically misdiagnosed and given only multivitamins, underscoring the critical importance of early and accurate diagnosis.
Mr. Thirupathi’s courage, combined with state-of-the-art medical care, not only saved his limb but is now an inspiring story of resilience and medical excellence
