V. Hanumantha Rao Ends Hunger Strike Demanding BC Caste Census and 60% Reservations

Hyderabad, May 10, 2026 Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao ended his two-day indefinite hunger strike at Amberpet in Hyderabad, which he had undertaken demanding the inclusion of Backward Classes (BCs) in the national census, implementation of caste census, and 60 percent reservations for BC communities based on their population.
Telangana Assembly Floor Leader Madhusudana Chary, MLC M. Kodandaram, and BC leader Jajula Srinivas Rao offered lemon juice and formally ended the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, Hanumantha Rao said that BC communities must receive reservations proportional to their population. He alleged that the Central Government was doing injustice to BCs and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he had proved himself to be anti-BC.
He asserted that the struggle for BC rights would continue until reservations are implemented and called for sustained protests, rallies, and agitations to pressure the Central Government into resolving the issue.
The protest received support from several political parties, including BRS, CPI(M), CPI, and various BC organizations and unemployed youth associations.
