Hyderabad, February 18, 2026: Dr. A. V. Gurava Reddy stated that under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sports in India are receiving renewed priority, and injured athletes should not assume their careers are over. He emphasized that the medical team at Sunshine Bone and Joint Institute is committed to helping athletes return to competition through timely and advanced medical care.

Marking the inspiring comeback of Kabaddi star Ramavath Nandini on the national stage, she was felicitated on Wednesday at KIMS Sunshine Hospitals, Begumpet. Nandini successfully overcame severe knee injuries with expert treatment provided under the leadership of Dr. B. Chandrasekhar, Director – Shoulder & Sports Surgery, KIMS Sunshine Hospitals, at a time when her sporting career was at serious risk.

In 2022, Nandini suffered an ACL ligament injury to her right knee, forcing her to step away from competitive sports. Seeking specialized care, she consulted Dr. B. Chandrasekhar at KIMS Sunshine Hospitals. Following a successful ACL reconstruction surgery and structured rehabilitation, she returned to the field within a few months and resumed competitive play.

Unfortunately, in 2024, she sustained another injury to the same knee, this time affecting the meniscus. Once again, under Dr. Chandrasekhar’s guidance, the medical team performed timely surgery followed by comprehensive rehabilitation. Her injury healed completely, enabling her to return to sports within just three months.

Demonstrating exceptional courage and perseverance, Nandini has now been selected to represent Telangana at the 72nd Senior National Women’s Kabaddi Championship, Dr. Chandrasekhar announced.

In recognition of her unwavering confidence and fighting spirit, Nandini was formally felicitated at KIMS Sunshine Hospitals under the leadership of Dr. A. V. Gurava Reddy.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gurava Reddy said the program aims to educate athletes on injury prevention, modern sports medicine, and rehabilitation, while reinforcing the message that with expert supervision, injuries do not have to end sporting careers. He added that Hyderabad, already known as a pharma and technology hub, also has the potential to become a leading Sports Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine hub.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests and sports medicine professionals, who shared their experiences and highlighted that nearly 80% of athletes in India step away from sports due to injuries. They expressed gratitude to KIMS Sunshine Hospitals management for providing advanced medical solutions to help athletes return to peak performance.

Nandini was specially honored in the presence of the leadership team of KIMS Sunshine Hospitals, including Executive Director Dr. Kushal Hippalgaonkar and other senior doctors.
