Seminar on 'Role of Quit India Movement' Held at BRR Government Degree College
Mahabubnagar: A one day seminar on ‘Quit India Movement’ was held by the Department of Social Sciences at BRR Government Degree College in Jadcherla on Friday. During the seminar, lead faculty from the department explained to the students on the pivotal role of the Quit India Movement in the Indian independence struggle. The event, highlighted the significance of the movement and its impact on India's quest for freedom.
Emphasizing on the the strategic leadership of Mahatma Gandhi during the Quit India Movement, Dr. Sukanya, Principal of BRR Government Degree College, noted that Gandhi, through his commitment to peace, non-violence, and satyagraha, significantly challenged British rule, making the British authorities uneasy.
Head of the History Department Raghavendra Reddy, recounted the historical context of the movement. He explained that the British government had sought Indian support during World War II. In response, Gandhi proposed that India would support the British war effort only if granted full independence. When the British rejected this demand, Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement from Mumbai on August 8, 1942, demanding an immediate end to British rule.
Adding further, Reddy highlighted that the Quit India Movement was a crucial phase in the Indian independence struggle. Gandhi’s call for the British to "Quit India" and his rallying cry of "Do or Die" mobilized the Indian populace and intensified the push for independence. The seminar also noted that this day coincided with the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Nagasaki in Japan during World War II.
Along with the Principal Dr. Pavani, other teaching staff, Nagaraju, Nanda Kishore, Narasimha, and Vidyarthi, along with other students, actively participated in the seminar, reflecting on the historical significance and enduring legacy of the Quit India Movement.
