Hyderabad, July 27, 2025 — In response to the alarming rise in Dry Eye Disease (DED) among screen users, Pristine Eye Hospitals announced the launch of the city’s first Centre of Excellence for Dry Eye, to be inaugurated on July 30 by Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Telangana.

Addressing a press conference, Dr. C. Jagadesh Reddy, Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgeon and Founder of Pristine Eye Hospitals, said, “Dry Eye is no longer an age-related problem—it is a digital-age crisis affecting tech professionals and teenagers alike.”

The new state-of-the-art centre, located near Rayadurgam Metro Station, opposite Raheja Mindspace, will offer:

  • World-Class Diagnostics: Tear Film Analyzer, Meibography, LipiView® Imaging

  • Advanced Therapies: LipiFlow®, IPL, BlephEx™, MeiboFlow®, Punctal Plugs

  • Personalized Programs: Eye wellness for IT employees, teens, and the elderly

  • ‘Screen Smart’ Corporate Packages: Tailored for workplace eye care

Dr. Reddy referred to the crisis as the "Blink Crisis", noting that studies show:

  • 70% of IT professionals report Dry Eye symptoms

  • 40% of urban teenagers are affected

  • 1 in 3 tech workers suffer from moderate to severe DED

  • Teens using screens >4 hours/day are twice as likely to develop DED

We are blinking 60% less while using screens. This silent epidemic is caused by screen overuse, air-conditioned environments, poor posture, and contact lens overuse,” Dr. Reddy said.

To spread awareness, the Pristine Vision Foundation is launching the “Blink Break” campaign across the city, promoting digital eye health, the 20-20-20 Rule, and encouraging preventive screening through an online Dry Eye Self-Test (OSDI).

The Foundation also plans mobile clinics and outreach camps to support underserved communities, aiming to eliminate preventable vision loss.

Dry Eye is underdiagnosed, self-treated, or ignored. Our Centre is just the beginning—we need a culture shift toward screen mindfulness and eye wellness,” concluded Dr. Reddy.
