21st june, New Delhi:

The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated worldwide on June 21, 2026, with great enthusiasm under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing." While the main event in India was held in Kolkata, yoga sessions took place across the globe, promoting healthy and active lifestyles.

With support from India's Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), over 210 Indian missions organized yoga events at more than 2,500 locations worldwide.

In the United States, large gatherings were held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and Times Square in New York, where the session was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's yoga teacher, H. R. Nagendra. Ayurveda awareness corners were also set up to promote traditional Indian wellness practices.

Yoga celebrations were also organized in Shanghai, Toronto, Birmingham, Germany, Sweden, and Buenos Aires, where special sessions for persons with disabilities and exhibitions on Indian culture added to the celebrations.

People across the world practiced yoga through the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), available in all six official UN languages, reflecting yoga's growing global appeal.

The massive participation across continents highlighted that yoga has evolved beyond a one-day event into a worldwide movement for health, wellness, and harmony.
