Hyderabad, June 26: India has launched Operation Amistad to deliver emergency relief and medical assistance to northern Venezuela following two devastating earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale.
As part of the humanitarian mission, two Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft departed carrying a 41-member Indian Army medical team, a field hospital unit, medicines, two indigenously developed BHISHM Cubes, and around 35 tonnes of relief supplies. The medical team from the Army's 60 Para Field Hospital is equipped to provide emergency treatment, trauma care, and surgical support in the affected areas.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said India remains committed to supporting the Government and people of Venezuela during this difficult time. The deployment of BHISHM Cubes under the Aarogya Maitri Project will enable rapid medical care, with each modular field hospital capable of treating nearly 200 patients.
According to reports, the earthquakes have claimed more than 235 lives and injured over 4,300 people. Through Operation Amistad, India has once again reaffirmed its role as a global first responder, extending humanitarian assistance and strengthening its commitment to helping nations during times of crisis.
