Hyderabad 26th September 2025: On the occasion of World Heart Day, an awareness program on Heart Diseases and Modern Surgeries was organized at KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet on Friday. The program was attended by doctors from the KIMS Sunshine Hospital Heart Institute, and a cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the event. This year’s World Heart Day theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” was highlighted during the session.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sridhar Kasturi, Head of Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Senior Interventional Cardiologist, said that from the time a fetus is formed in the mother’s womb at three weeks to the age of 70, the human heart beats nearly 2.5 billion times. He emphasized that more than 1.7 crore people die every year worldwide due to heart-related problems, of which 80 percent are preventable with early diagnosis, timely treatment, and lifestyle changes.
Dr. Sridhar explained that diabetes, smoking, microplastics, traffic pollution, and stressful lifestyles are contributing to heart diseases, which are increasingly affecting not only the elderly but also the youth. Lack of physical activity, poor diet, and mental stress are major causes among young people, he added.
He further stated that early detection is possible through small scans and tests. Healthy habits such as eating more vegetables, reducing salt, sugar, and fat intake, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and practicing yoga and meditation can significantly protect heart health.
