Continental Hospitals launches “ Humanity wins” Community Outreach Program for Cancer Awareness

Hyderabad, February 28th, 2019: Continental Hospitals today launched a Community based Cancer prevention awareness programme – “Humanity Wins” at  St. Francis College, Begumpet, Hyderabad.

The objective behind this initiative is to join hands and fence the society against the scale of damage by cancer. Today doctors are witnessing only 12.5 % of patients who come for treatment in early stages as the rest of the 70% of the population are falling for it due to late the detection of the disease.

To tackle this problem, the hospital decided to take up an initiative with the support from the student of St. Francis by spreading awareness on cancer prevention and reduce the number of deaths. The students were empowered with education on Cancer prevention by their doctors from the Department of Oncology and an awareness booklet about cancer and early detection was also launched in the event.

As the number of cancer cases are increasing around us, our medical and diagnostic systems along with society and community must keep pace. This requires each one of us to understand and acknowledge that we can make a difference by helping people around us. If each of us understand this disease, educate our people around us about it and watch for its signs, we will win- as humanity and because of our humanity.

Dr Praveen Kumar Dadireddy, Chief Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon, Head Continental Breast Centre said, “ There has been a steep rise of breast cancer cases around us and our medical and diagnostic systems along with society and community must keep pace in fighting against this disease. Breast Cancer is a disease which is hard to detect unless we observe the symptoms and understands when to approach a doctor. If each of us understand this disease, educate people around us about it and watch for its signs, we will win- as humanity and will be able to fight the battle of cancer together”.

“Through this Humanity Wins initiative, We want to tackle cancer from all angles and this will be achieved through students of neighbouring schools/colleges who would be empowered with education on Cancer prevention and an awareness booklet about cancer and early detection. This booklet would contain information about the different types of cancers, their symptoms and risk factors and how to detect them. These students would reach out door to door in the neighborhood with the help of Community Leaders and spread awareness about early detection of cancer, said Dr Suneetha M, Senior Radiation Oncologist.

The students were provided with booklets about “Early Cancer Detection” for distribution in their neighborhood community.
